For under $30, I doubt you find a better baton. That being said, the unit I received doesn't seem to catch properly when extended. No matter how hard I swing, I can wiggle the middle shaft and collapse it by hand. It makes the noise and gives the look you'd want to hopefully defuse an altercation before it starts, but I can't see it staying rigid past the first swing. I plan to leave this in my truck and have already ordered a higher end baton to carry.
