I like the baton. I practice everyday swinging with wrist from a rest position at my shoulder, and turn my upper torso quickly. I return to start position quickly in order to keep baton away from perp. It took a while to learn, but I also incorporated the “ nunchucks style” of fighting, using feet to Power Stop a Crazed Knife attacker by stomping his mid waist / chest / or upper leg that is coming more forward than the body. I still throw jabs with Left, have a forearm guard (plated and studded) to take some of the force of knife while trying to grab the wrist and join help with baton and Right hand securing the whole arm to floor….. then fall on top of perp with 215 ….. then after blinding perp with 9000 power light from 30 feet away, pepper spraying him from 20 feet, and finally taser him to ground after knocking knife out and hitting his joints and ankles. His forward facing limbs also weakened by blows to keep him from grabbing or running.
